At Happily Handcrafted we are devoted to sourcing the most ethical products and therefore understanding the social and environmental impacts of our material supply chain is important.

 

 

We source wood with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification as they set higher standards than any other forest certification scheme, which gives users the best assurance that certified forests are being managed responsibly.  FSC helps take care of forests, the people and wildlife who call them home.

FSC is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests. The certification process is carried out by independent organisations against these standards.

 

 

 PINE

One of the most popular types of wood, it has beautiful natural patterns and grains in the wood giving it an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Even though pine is a soft wood, it is very durable and can resist wear and tear. Pine comes in many forms, we use dressed and plywood pine.

Dressed Pine: has been milled to size and machine finished until it is smooth.

Plywood: is a versatile material that is both light and strong. Plywood has superior strength and resistance to warping over milled materials of the same thickness. It’s made from thin layers of pine, laminated together using both heat and pressure. This durable wood uses more of the timber log than other materials.

Both forms of Pine feature the stunning warmth of the natural timber grains.

MEDIUM DENSITY FIBREBOARD (MDF)

MDF is an engineered wood product of uniform density, with a smooth surface, its raw form is the perfect base for painting. Manufactured from waste pine fibres and resin MDF has a surface free of knots and grains.  We also utilise a decorative MDF which has a woodgrain pattern laminated to its surface. MDF is great interior material which has a hard surface resistant to damage.

 

ACRYLIC

Acrylic is light in weight and remains hardy to the effects of weather. It offers a high degree of resistance to scratching, without the risk of breakage associated with glass. Acrylic comes in a rainbow of colours in translucent, opaque and mirror. We utilise acrylic to make long-lasting products, to utilise its durability. Another benefit of acrylic is that it needs almost no maintenance and it’s very easy to clean. We are unaware of suppliers for Acrylic made from recycled materials; and have been advised that this is due to the manufacturing process.
