Our Auslan Alphabet Discs are a great educational resource. Auslan was originally developed for Australians with a hearing impairment, as a visual form of communication. It uses hand, arm and body movements.
We conceived these discs
when our child’s speech therapist suggested they learn sign language to help with their communication.
We needed a tool that was fun and engaging, but nothing existed.
So we developed and designed these wooden discs.
Not only are they excellent for supporting children with additional needs, they are a great resource for teaching all children an additional language.
Children can learn to sign before they can talk.
Our discs showcase fingerspelling which is used in about 10% of all visual communication.
We have used the discs to spell words and then sign. We use 2 sets to play memory or go fish. The possibilities are endless.
Please note that the signs are the same on both the upper and lower case sets. Its the letters engraved next to the signs which vary.
These discs are made from sustainably sourced materials
. Each disc measures 50mm in diameter.
